Waitrose is delighted to be the retail sponsor for 2008 Open Farm Sunday, and to support this show case day for British farming. It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to spend a fun day out seeing how their food is produced, and how farmers take care of the countryside around them. Waitrose is passionate about selling great tasting British food and is proud of the many farmers and growers who supply it, many of whom will be opening their farms on this day.
Frontier Agriculture is delighted to be involved in Open Farm Sunday, to support our farming customers and to help educate the younger generation about how their food is produced. Frontier Agriculture is involved in all aspects of arable farming, and we already work with a number of customers in introducing school children to British Farms. Our sponsorship of Open Farm Sunday is a logical extension of this support, which we believe demonstrates the commitment that farmers have to producing wholesome food in a way which provides a sustainable environment which we can all enjoy.
LEAF Marque is the leading environmental food label that demonstrates that the food you buy is grown with care for the future of our environment, wildlife and countryside. LEAF Marque farmers are actively improving the environment and we want all people to visit LEAF Marque farms to see how farmers are caring for the countryside and how their food is produced. Open Farm Sunday offers everyone an opportunity to get a better public understanding of farming food and the countryside, LEAF Marque fully supports this in the hope that every one has chance to buy LEAF Marque produce and understand how its grown.
Once again, McDonald’s is delighted to sponsor Open Farm Sunday this year. As strong supporters of British agriculture, we worked with over 17,000 British and Irish farmers last year to source high quality local produce for our menu. Open Farm Sunday provides a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to visit a farm in their local area to see how the farm works and find out more about where their food comes from.
The RSPB wants to see sustainable farming that provides safe, healthy, affordable food; protects and enhances the environment and its wildlife; supports diverse and attractive landscapes and contributes to a thriving rural economy. We support Open Farm Sunday because it encourages the millions of people who care about wild birds to visit the countryside where they live, and to understand farmers' important conservation role.
The Year of Food and Farming is a campaign that aims to provide children with the opportunity to learn about food, farming and the countryside. It will run from September 2007 to July 2008 and aims to give children first hand experience of seeing, growing and cooking food.
National Grid is pleased to support Open Farm Sunday. Much of our UK gas and electricity transmission infrastructure is sited on or under land owned and managed by farmers, some of whom will be opening their farms to the public this year. Open Farm Sunday offers an excellent opportunity for everyone to see first hand the commitment in the countryside to sustainable food production.
Defra is pleased to support the excellent work of Open Farm Sunday in encouraging people to re-connect with farming. As part of our Strategy for Sustainable Farming, we recognise the importance that farm visits play in extending and deepening wider public understanding of farming and food production.
